Greetings AYC Family:
trust you are having a wonderful spring so far. I know many of you have
been wondering about the status of Appalachian Youth Camp 2021. Just this week,
the LiveGODLoud Ministries board made the difficult decision not to have AYC
2021 and in addition, we have decided to officially close the camp permanently.
As you might well assume, this was a very difficult decision that was made with
much prayer and thorough discussion and evaluation of trends over the past few
years. It has become very apparent that inter-denominational youth camps
without sponsorship of a local church are becoming very difficult to sustain.
Local churches are now hosting youth camps and/or retreats for their own youth
groups, preferring not to travel long distance. This provides opportunity for
local youth group unification, as well as more of an assurance of safety and
protection for young people.
One might ask, why not one more camp and one more opportunity to celebrate AYC and bring closure? This was something that we were hoping to do and were planning, however with the projections we currently have for camp this summer, we do not believe it is financially prudent to have camp and therefore have made the decision not to do so.
AYC has been woven into the lives of many of us over the years. This did not come as an easy decision for those of us who have been an active part of AYC since its founding in 1982, as well as those who have been with us for most or many of those years. However, as much as we ache at the thought of not being able to attend AYC in the future, we rejoice in the many, many people that have encountered Jesus and had their lives changed for eternity because of an amazing camp in the state of Pennsylvania known as Appalachian Youth Camp. For thirty-nine years, God has used this camp to further His kingdom. For that I am eternally grateful.
I am asking you to join us Monday evening, July 19, 2021, for an evening of virtual celebration. We are planning a great evening. In the next couple weeks, we will be announcing some guest speakers, including our founder, Brother Mac, who will be joining us as we celebrate. Anyone and everyone will be welcome to join in and share your favorite AYC memories. We will be premiering a video of the history of AYC from its beginning in 1982 right through to AYC Online 2020. It is going to be a great night, possibly including live worship. I would love for you to plan to join us for this AYC Finale event. Be watching for social media posts with updates and announcements.
Finally, I am asking that you continue to pray for LGL Ministries. This organization will continue to provide ministries for young people through the LifeTraks School of Leadership. Our board is in the process of re-developing the LifeTraks program in order to provide local churches the tools to invest in the life purpose and leadership of their teens. LifeTraks has already impacted many young people since 2010 and we are anticipating that God will continue to use this program for the building of His kingdom for years to come. Thank you in advance for your prayers.
Let me say “thank you” to each one of you for being a part of this AYC journey with us. Only eternity will reveal the magnitude of your investment. Please continue to love young people and find ways to point them to Jesus. You are loved!
